Monica Bellucci Won’t Rule Out Return To ‘Bond’ Franchise

Monica Bellucci Lucia Sciarra Bond 25 Spectre Return

Monica Bellucci Lucia Sciarra Bond 25 Spectre ReturnDaniel Craig will be returning as James Bond in the twenty-fifth instalment of the long-running franchise. That much we know. What hasn’t been revealed yet is who will be joining him. We can probably assume we will be seeing Ralph Fiennes (M), Ben Whishaw (Q), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), and Rory Kinnear (Tanner) all reprising their roles as Bond’s MI6 colleagues. The return of Léa Seydoux’s Dr. Madeleine Swan may also be within the realms of possibility. However, rumors are now suggesting Monica Bellucci could be back as Lucia Sciarra, the widow of an assassin killed by Bond and the oldest ‘Bond girl’ to date.

Bellucci’s agent has apparently claimed that the actress “is neither confirming nor denying” the rumors concerning her return to the franchise. When recently asked about the speculation more directly, Bellucci simply told reporters “I can’t say anything.” Nothing conclusive then, but the fact that Bellucci isn’t denying the rumors outright probably means her return isn’t entirely out of the question.

Bellucci first played the role of Sciarra in the most recent Bond film, 2015’s Spectre. It is rumored that Craig himself is pushing for her return. This seems believable enough, given that he has spoken before about it being appropriate for Bond to find a female companion of a similar age to himself (Bellucci was 51 at the time, while Craig is in his late forties). Bellucci also received praise from Craig, as well as the critics, many of whom felt her role in Spectre was too brief. Given that Craig’s future in the franchise briefly seemed somewhat uncertain following Spectre‘s release, it may also be reasonable to assume the producers could be allowing him a ‘wishlist’ in order to keep him on board.

Would you like to see Bellucci return for a bigger role in the Bond franchise? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

The currently untitled Bond 25 will star Daniel Craig as James Bond. Skyfall and Spectre writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will return to pen the script.

Bond 25 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2019.
